Yumiko Sato

I'm a Japanese journalist and author fascinated by the impact of technology on society. I've written for TIME, highlighting overlooked hate speech on Japanese Internet, and contributed to Slate and Undark Magazine, discussing historical revisionism on Japanese Wikipedia.

For over a decade, I worked as a board-certified music therapist, supporting the terminally ill in the US and Japan. This exposed the dangers of health misinformation and opened my eyes to the risks posed by online falsehoods.

My books include "Song of War" (2020), exploring the experiences of my former patients who lived through WWII. "Heart of the Dying" (2017) and "Last Song" (2014) delve into music therapy's role in end-of-life care.

Today, I'm dedicated to combating online misinformation and harmful content, while also exploring how cultural dynamics shape the effects of technology on society.
